Farber & Shlevin Inc. hand wrought aluminum serving tray. Embossed w sunflowers, sides are crimped, cut outs on handles + sides. Mold 1763. There seems to be a burn mark on the front + a mark on the bottom, shown. Most likely dates 1930s-40s.
History nugget! Farber & Shlevin was a 20th c. maker of aluminum, sometimes called "the poor man's silver." When the Great Depression gripped the nation in the 1930s, demand for consumer products fell as many people struggled to get by in the faltering economy. Up to this point, silver had been the primary material used for creating fashionable housewares. With few buyers able to purchase silver products, manufacturers turned to aluminum.
